Final Post

In my final post I'd like to say that I have learned a lot during the course of this class. This class has inspired me to go out and to find pictures in everyday life. Ive learned to look at things differently and to see how to get a great photo.

These are my examples of portraits in both the studio and in the outside using a reflector.

For this final photo assignment I chose to do light painting. This was a very difficult assignment, not because each picture had to be drawn, but because I had a really hard time coming up with new ideas. In my setting there wasnt much I could do with light painting but i did manage to come up with some pretty good photos.

Aperture: f/22

Shutter Speed: 20 seconds

In this assignment, I decided to try and take some pictures of shadow and light. I was near the Graveyard on Michigan Ave. one evening and I noticed how some of the graves were in shadow. I wondered in there and this one stood out. The way the light made the trees silhouettes against the background made it very creepy looking.

Aperture: f/2.8

Shutter Speed: 1/40

ISO: 100

Change the Context of the School

In this GIMP assignment we were to take a picture of the school and then use gimp and images from the internet to change the context of it. I chose a Back to the Future theme, with the Delorean traveling to the future and back, with a confused Marty McFly in the foreground.

Panning

In this lesson we learned how to use motion and panning to create an interesting photo. To pan, we needed to pre-focus the camera at the spot where the object was going to be, then matched the incoming objects speed and shoot the photo when it passed over out spot.

This week I went to the Saline CC Regional meet. The weather was horrible and it was a really hard race for all of the runners. I tried to capture a lot of emotion when the race was going on. I like this picture because it shows a lot of the runners really toughing it out.

Aperture: f/4.5

Panoramic Photo

In this assignment, we created panoramic pictures using a composite of several photographs. For me, I chose to take pictures of the back football field and track at SHS. We had to layer photos and create a seamless design.

Patterns, Shapes, and Textures

In this assignment, I focused on finding interesting patterns, shapes, and textures in everyday life. This particular photo was taken in Frankenmuth above the Bavarian Inn. Its a shot looking down a tile roof from above.

Technical Settings:

Aperture: f/4

Shutter Speed: 1/1000

ISO: 100

For this assignment, we were to clean up a picture of a car, and make it the focal point of the picture. We needed to change the color of the car, erase reflections of light, and erase the background.

Still Life

In this assignment, I chose to do still life photography. I had set up a small studio in my basement, and used that over a few days to photograph some things that I believed would look interesting. I really enjoyed being able to play with the lighting effects to see what kind of results I could achieve. I think it was valuable experience to learn about studio lighting, and its effects.

Technical Settings:

Aperture: f/5

Shutter Speed: 1/10

ISO: 100

In this project, we were told to use Gimp to create an Andy Warhol-style photograph. We took a portrait of a person, turned them black and white, then placed colors in the background. We repeated this four times to create the desired effect.

Nature

This is a photo of a rose outside of my church. I was there early in the morning for a meeting and had decided to take my camera with me. I saw this one rose still blooming and I thought that it looked really cool. I shot most of these pictures at Mill Pond Park, and on the High School campus.

Aperture: f/3.2

Architecture Photo Assignment 1

This is my best example of architecture photography. This was taken at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dearborn, Mi. I took this around evening so that the light was behind the church, giving it more shadows.

Technical Settings:
f stop: f/4.5
Shutter speed: 1/1000
ISO: 100

Most of the photos for this assignment were taken near Sacred Heart, or in the Law Quad at the Uiversity of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I tried to capture some of the history of the buildings, while occasionally capturing things that most people wouldn't see.

I am very fond of cool looking buildings. Old Victorian buildings are probably some of the coolest forms of architecture in the world. My hope is to be able to capture some of the dazzel of these old buildings, and show what was once a golden age in architecture.

some of the inspiration for my photos are:

Composition Assignment 2

Assignment Description:
In this assignment, we were told to find five pictures of different examples of photo composition. These styles were different than those used in the composition 1 assignment. The styles include:

1. Framing
2. Color
3. Balance
4. Perspective
5. Space

These five styles were much harder to find good examples of. The ideas that they conveyed weren't exactly clear cut or black and white. I think that with these new ways of taking picutres under my belt, I feel that my photos will become much better.

I learned that there's a lot more that goes into taking a photo than just pointing and shooting. I learned that sometimes, taking a good photo requires a lot of thinking and hard work.

Composition Assignment 1

Assignment Description:
In this assignment, we were asked to take six pictures using certain criteria to compose the photos.

The styled used were:
1. Symmetry
2. Pattern
3. Texture
4. Depth of Field
5. Lines
6. Rule of Thirds
I took many of these photos at Saline High School, but I also took a few at home. These photos exemplify my knowledge of these styles of photo composition up to this point.

I learned a lot about photo composition during this assignment. I learned how to set up a nice shot with the rule of thirds so that the picture feels more inviting. I learned that lines can be a very valuable tool for a photographer also.
